The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office hosted an active shooter training class February 21 – 22, 2022. The training was provided by DETCOG and designed specifically for school shootings. Local agencies that participated in the training included the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Center Police Department, Shelbyville ISD and Center ISD.
This course was scheduled in January. Ironically, training took place this week when numerous threats were made to Shelby County schools from an individual threatening to carry out school shootings. “We believe that this particular training is of the utmost importance in assuring the safety of not only the school districts in our county, but our county as a whole,” said Captain Tanner Peace. “We hope to expand and continue these types of training in the future.”
